ABOUT US
Mission Vision Goals History Board Staff Facilities

The Mission
Our mission is to help adults and families acquire the reading, writing, math, English language, computer and workforce skills they need to be fully functioning community members.

The Vision
Our vision is to build a community literate in the English language.

The Goals
Our goals are to develop a stronger public understanding and commitment to adult literacy and lifelong learning, better defining the specific needs of our adult students, increasing program capacity, accessibility and coordination, and improving both program quality and systems of accountability. These goals directly support our mission.

The History
Literacy Green Bay is our new name as of January 2008.  We were founded in 1981 under our former name of Literacy Council of Brown County in response to a need for tutors to work with newly arrived Southeast Asian refugees. The all-volunteer program was later expanded to include undereducated English speaking adults, as well as students of all ethnicities, and paid staff was hired to provide the level of resources necessary to support the organization's goals.
