Learners
~ Potential English Language Learners
(ELL) or Adult Basic Education (basic) students ages 16 and up are
served by our one-on-one tutoring
program. There are three parts to the
intake process.
First,
ELL learners are evaluated
for class or tutor placement by the
class coordinator. These oral
evaluations take place anytime on:
Mondays 6 - 7
p.m. or Tuesdays
9 - 11 a.m.
or 6 - 7 p.m.
Basic
learners just call the office and
register over the telephone.
Next, all learners take a written test
of reading and writing skills. Lastly,
all learners are interviewed before
being placed on the waiting list for a
tutor.
Attendance and
results are recorded. Cost: $20 for
registration (current students FREE) + the cost of books once
you are matched with a tutor. Financial
is
assistance available.

Volunteer
Tutors are recruited and trained to
tutor adult learners who seek help to
improve their basic reading, writing,
thinking, and math skills, and/or to
learn the English language.
The first step to training is an
orientation. Training consists of four
three-hour session designed to
thoroughly prepare a tutor to work with
the student of his or her choice. See
the buttons below for upcoming
orientation or training dates and times.
Most tutors
meet with their students twice a week,
and work together for 1 to 1-1/2 hours
each time.
Each tutor/learner team decides where and when
to meet. The Literacy
Green Bay office supplies tutoring
materials.
