Spanish Class Descriptions
Spanish 1
For learners with no Spanish-learning experience. Focuses on pronunciation, basic vocabulary (family, business, conversation, numbers, days, months, activities), foundation grammar, and basic verb usage. Uses a textbook designed to take the participant through several levels of instruction.
Spanish 2
For learners with some Spanish-learning experience.
Expands vocabulary and grammar, especially verb usage, and reinforces concepts already learned to increase participants’ comfort using the language. Focuses on descriptive words, present tense regular verbs, stem changing verbs, present progressive, and useful irregulars. Uses the same textbook as the preceding class. No need to purchase an additional book if you attended Spanish 1(Beginning Spanish) at Literacy Green Bay.
Spanish 3
Expands vocabulary base (clothing, house, animals, et al) grammar concepts (possessive adjectives, demonstrative adjectives), and builds use of past tense verbs and verbs ir and gustar. Conversation practice with native speakers may be incorporated. Completes Book 1 and moves into Book 2. Book 2 will be needed during the session.
Spanish 4
Adds to vocabulary, grammar concepts (adverbs), and builds use of verbs in commands, future tense, and reflexives. Conversation practice with native Spanish-speakers from ELL classes is part of the curricula. Uses Book 2.
Spanish 5
Continues development of fluency through intensive
practice and study of the spoken and written language.
Stresses accurate use of grammatical structures and
sensitivity to differences in style, tone, and level of
language from colloquial to formal.
