Executive
Director Job Description
Reports to: Board of Directors
Summary
The Executive Director is responsible for implementing
the strategic goals and objectives of Literacy Green Bay,
collaborating with the board chair to enable the Board
of Directors to fulfill its function as a governing
body and providing direction and leadership toward the
achievement of the organization's philosophy, mission,
strategy, and annual goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
• Board Administration and Support
Support the operations and administration of the Board
by advising and informing the board members, interfacing
with board and staff, supporting the board's evaluation
of the executive director, and working with board
committees to deliver the organization's programs and
products. Serve as ex-officio member of the Board and
all committees.
• Program, Product and
Service Delivery
Oversee the design, marketing, promotion, delivery
and quality of programs, products and services. Keep
informed of trends and issues in the fields of Adult
Basic Education, English Language Learning, Family
Literacy, and Workforce Development.
• Financial, Tax, Risk
and Facilities Management
Recommend annual budget for Board approval and prudently
manage the organizations' resources within those budget
guidelines and according to current laws and
regulations.
• Human Resource
Management
Effectively manage the human resources of the
organization according to authorized personnel policies
and procedures that fully conform to current laws and
regulations. Ensure that the organization is adequately
staffed and equipped.
• Community and Pubic
Relations
Act as principal spokesperson for the organization.
Ensure that the organization and its mission, programs,
products and services are consistently presented in a
strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders.
• Fundraising
Oversee fund development planning and implementation in
collaboration with the Board. Identify and research
funding sources, ensure that all legal obligations and
funding source requirements are met, establish
strategies to use when approaching funding sources,
submit grant proposals and funding requests, and
maintain fundraising records and required documentation.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree from an
accredited college and university
• Demonstrated leadership
skills, including negotiating, problem solving and
decision making
• Experience in
supervising program and personnel in educational or
business environment preferred
• Strong communication
skills, both oral and written
• Basic knowledge of asset
management
• Must be able to work
independently, set priorities, follow through and meet
deadlines
• Ability to establish and
maintain effective working relationships with the Board
of Directors, community groups, grantors and other
related entities
• Demonstrated ability to
plan and implement effective operations
• A successful track
record in grant writing, sponsorship development and
fundraising preferred
• Familiarity with
guidelines, regulations and restrictions related to
non-profit corporations and government non-profit status
beneficial.
