From Russia With Love

Rustem and his wife Nina came to the U.S. from Russia to help their daughter care for her husband, who was very ill with cancer. After their son-in-law died, they stayed to help their daughter raise her child.

Both Rustem and Nina had graduated from university in Moscow. Rustem had worked in aviation plants, and Nina had been a teacher.

After arriving in Green Bay, Rustem started working on English language skills with his tutor, Carol Crawford.

"It was a struggle to find work and communicate with people when I first came to Green Bay because I didn't know the language well," said Rustem.

A year later, Nina also began her study of English with Carol. They have now been working with Carol for more than five years.

Both recently became U.S. citizens. Being citizens makes Rustem and Nina feel that they are truly part of the U.S., and both look forward to voting.
