Gloria's Milestones

When Gloria Alcazar moved to Green Bay in December of 2000, she knew only 3 English words:  hello, goodbye and sorry.

In less than a decade, Gloria, a native of Guatemala, has become a U.S. citizen, has opened a tax service business with her husband, and reads at a 12th grade level!

“Literacy Green Bay provided me with a tutor,” Gloria said. “Linda helped me understand and speak English.”

“Since I've been tutoring her, Gloria has reached many milestones,” Linda said. “In the beginning, her goal was to read a child’s book to her four-year-old daughter in English; then it was to follow a recipe in English; after that, to go to a doctor’s appointment without an interpreter; and later to apply and interview for a job without an interpreter.”

Another major accomplishment for Gloria was opening Alcazar Tax Service and later expanding it from a home business to an office on Main Street.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to support someone else on the path to their dreams,” said Linda proudly.
