More than 36 million American adults struggle to read, write, do math, and use technology above a third grade reading level. Communities feel these effects. Each year, American employers spend over $125.9 BILLION dollars on training and remediation of their workforce.
The Need for Literacy Programs
This problem is compounded by the fact that there are not enough local programs, or often long wait lists to enter literacy, English language, or GED programs.
Children of parents with low literacy skills have a 72 percent chance of reading below grade level. These children are more likely to get poor grades, display behavioral problems or drop out of school
