"Reading is a ladder out of poverty. It is probably
one of the best anti-poverty, anti-depravation,
anti-crime, anti-vandalism policies you can think of."

U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown, launching the National Year of Reading 2008

About Literacy
Literacy is a systemic issue -- it is at the root of many social ills. The cost to families and the community is enormous. People with low literacy levels are less likely to graduate from high school, more likely to live in poverty, more likely to be dependent on public tax-supported programs, or more likely to be incarcerated.

About Literacy Green Bay
Literacy Green Bay has been improving lives through literacy for 28 years!  We offer programs centered around the advancement of literacy -- an individual's ability to read, write and speak English.

Most learners come because they want to get a better job/promotion, read to their children, help their children with homework, or get a GED/HSED or a technical certificate.

About 10 percent of our learners are seeking basic skills. Almost 100% of our learners are from low-income families.
